Chocolate Rubber (Dear
Mister Magic)
By Khabazela Mkhize
Have you seen the sky?
It is now made from chocolate
smoke
Brown ether rubbing in-out of us
As the earth beneath us quivers
This is some place you have made
Dear Mister Magic
Where we fall deep in love
Run between the daisies
Kiss
Till our precious chests hurt
And hiss
This is some place
Where we are caught
Flicking sugar beans
Into our desperate throats
Sour mouthfuls of simple heaven
Some place
We bite our skins to love the pain
Stand on high while the tears fall
To moisten the quivers into tickles
This space is a place of gifts and
dreams
Of poor kings and slaves with
grim sickles
We pray for Mister Magic to love
our sins
This is some place your graceful
hand has given
Where we sit looking beyond
Hopeful
That for us love will be again love
